Bengaluru (Karnataka) | June 29, 2026 7:25:58 PM IST
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin door-to-door distribution of enumeration forms across the city from June 30 as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll-2026. A total of 2,855 Voter Facilitation Centres have also been set up to assist citizens during the exercise.

Addressing a press conference at the GBA head office, District Election Officer and GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao urged residents to extend full cooperation to BLOs and ensure timely submission of required documents. He said the exercise is aimed at ensuring comprehensive and accurate updating of the electoral roll in the city.

Rao further stated that in cases where residents are not available during the first visit, BLOs will make up to two additional attempts to deliver the enumeration forms. "Necessary measures are in place to ensure that no household is left out of the survey," he said, underscoring the administration's commitment to complete coverage.

As part of the preparatory exercise, Rao informed that the mapping of the 2002 electoral roll with the 2025 electoral roll has reached 76.32 per cent completion. Out of a total of 1,03,88,363 voters under the GBA jurisdiction, 79,27,902 electors have already been mapped, while 24,60,461 voters are yet to be covered. He added that efforts are underway to complete the remaining mapping at the earliest.

Under the SIR process, BLOs will distribute enumeration forms during morning visits and collect the filled-in forms by evening. The collected forms will be digitised and uploaded on the same day to ensure real-time updating of records. Voters who wish to update their photographs have been advised to submit a recent passport-size photograph along with the form.

The authorities have also made provisions for alternate submission. Completed enumeration forms can be submitted at Voter Facilitation Centres (VFCs) and at designated polling stations on holidays, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all electors.

To facilitate the process further, 2,855 Voter Facilitation Centres have been established at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). In addition, 902 facilitation centres have been set up at ward offices to support BLOs in the smooth conduct of the revision exercise.

Rao also highlighted the extensive manpower deployed for the SIR. The district currently has 28 EROs, 75 AEROs, 905 BLO Supervisors, and 8,972 BLOs, all of whom have undergone training for the electoral revision process. He added that recognised political parties have nominated 16,505 Booth Level Agents (BLAs-2), whose details have been submitted to the District Election Officer and concerned EROs.

He further stated that a meeting with representatives of political parties was held to discuss operational aspects, including BLO fieldwork during holidays and evening hours, as well as the distribution of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to BLAs.

The Special Intensive Revision schedule for 2026 has also been formally outlined. Door-to-door visits will be conducted from June 30, 2026, to July 29, 2026. The rationalisation of polling stations is scheduled for July 29, 2026, followed by the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, 2026.

The claims and objections period will run from August 5, 2026 to September 4, 2026, while the disposal of claims and objections will continue from August 5, 2026 to October 3, 2026. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7, 2026.

Special Commissioner Sushama Godbole, Commissioners Pommala Sunil Kumar, G. Jagadeesh, Ramesh K.N., and Dr. Rajendra K.V., Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner Kantaraju, Joint Commissioner Pallavi, Assistant Commissioner Shrinivas M., and several other senior officials attended the press conference.
