Sheikh Abdul Hakim, director of the Manipur government's social welfare department, visited the Churachandpur district on Thursday along with departmental staff under the leadership and administrative outreach initiative of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.

Guided by the Chief Minister's vision, the social welfare department intensified efforts to deliver welfare schemes to the hill areas. The visit aimed at strengthening coordination with elected representatives and ensuring effective delivery of welfare schemes to the hill areas.

During the visit, the Director held meetings with several MLAs, including Letzamang Haokip of Henglep Assembly Constituency, Chinlunthang Manlun of Singhat (ST), and LM Khaute of Churachandpur. He also paid homage to Late Vungzagin Valte and expressed heartfelt condolences.

Notably, the visit comes in the backdrop of challenges faced in administrative outreach into the hill districts following the outbreak of violence since May 2023. In a proactive move, the Director personally travelled to the district to bridge the gap and directly engage with stakeholders on the ground.

Sheikh Abdul Hakim also interacted with Anganwadi workers, helpers, supervisors, and departmental staff, attentively listening to their grievances, issues, and operational challenges.

He assured them that their concerns would be addressed in a prompt and effective manner. The Churachandpur Anganwadi Workers' Association expressed gratitude for the visit, appreciating the Director's effort to hear their voices firsthand.

As part of the tour, the Director visited the One Stop Centre (OSC) and the District Social Welfare Office in Churachandpur district to review the functioning and service delivery.

Earlier, while addressing the media, the director said under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister, the Social Welfare Department is actively engaging with MLAs to strengthen welfare delivery across the state.

He went on to say that the social welfare department remains committed to addressing public grievances efficiently through coordinated efforts.

In a major relief to beneficiaries, he informed that six months of pending old age pension funds are set to be released by April. Strong coordination between MLAs and departmental offices is being ensured so that welfare schemes reach the grassroots level, he said

Asserting that comprehensive beneficiary data across constituencies has been compiled to enhance transparency and effective implementation, he reiterated that efforts are underway to ensure last-mile delivery of all welfare schemes without delay.

The department is accelerating its mission to bring tangible change on the ground, ensuring no eligible citizen is left behind. The visit marks a renewed push by the Social Welfare Department to restore administrative outreach and strengthen service delivery mechanisms in the hill districts. (ANI)
