Dibrugarh (Assam) | April 1, 2026 8:52:24 AM IST
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised Assam's development under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying the state is now unstoppable.

The polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

Addressing the public meeting in Dibrugarh, the Maharashtra CM said, "I hail from the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who fought against the Mughals and established 'Swarajya' (self-rule). Similarly, Lachit Borphukan fought against the Mughals right here in Assam and reclaimed his dominion over this land. I firmly believe this: I come from the West, and this is the East. Over there stands the Gateway of India, and here, where I have arrived, stands the Gateway of Northeast India."

He highlighted Assam's historic legacy and compared the region's progress to his home state of Maharashtra, stating that with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam will continue to move forward and prosper.

He drew a cultural connection with Assam, saying the people here, like those in his home state, affectionately call their mother 'Ai'.

"There is a striking similarity between you and us: just as you affectionately address your mother as 'Ai' here, we, too, address our mother as 'Ai' back home. Thus, I have come amongst you today, bringing with me the maternal affection of 'Ai', a true maternal affection, not the 'Mamata' of Bengal. You might be tempted to think of that 'Mamata', but there is absolutely no genuine affection within that Mamata," he said.

"However, my sole purpose in coming here today is to state this: given the transformative manner in which PM Modi has reshaped Assam, and the way Hemanta Da has transformed this state, nothing can stop Assam now. From this point forward, Assam will only march ahead onward and upward," Maharashtra CM further said. (ANI)
