A total of 42,74,160 electors have been removed from the electoral roll after the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Madhya Pradesh, election officials said on Tuesday.

The first phase of the SIR concluded in the state on December 18 and the first draft roll of voters was released on Tuesday in which the said number of voters have been removed. These voters have been deleted from the rolls on the basis of being found dead, duplicated, absent and shifted elsewhere, he added.

"As of October 27, 2025, the total number of voters in Madhya Pradesh stood at 5,74,06,143. The process of filling enumeration forms was completed by December 18, following which the draft electoral roll was published today, December 23. According to the draft electoral roll, the total number of registered voters in the state is 5,31,31,983. Among the removed voters, 8,46,184 voters were found dead, 8,42,677 voters were found absent, 22,78,393 voters were shifted elsewhere, 2,76,961 voters were already enrolled (duplication) and 29,927 others. With this, a total of 42,74,160 voters, accounting for 7.45 percent of the total electorate, have not been included in the draft roll," said Ram Pratap Singh Jadon, Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh.

The electoral officer added that if any voter has an objection, such as their name not appearing in the list, may submit the claim or appeal from December 23, up to January 22. All such claims and objections will be resolved by February 14, 2026. Thereafter, the final electoral roll will be published on February 21, 2026.

Apart from this, there were 8,65,831 unmapped voters, whose names are present in the current electoral roll but data of these voters are not found in the record of 2003. These voters will be served notices and they have to present the relevant document in support of their claim.

"A total of 8,65,831 voters are classified as unmapped, though they are included within the total figure of 5,31,31,983 voters. Notices will be issued to all such unmapped voters by the concerned Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO), specifying the date, time, and venue of the hearing. On the scheduled date, the concerned voters will present their documents and submissions in response to the notice, based on which the ERO and AERO will make a decision," he added. (ANI)

All the claims and objections will be resolved by February 14, 2026 and the final electoral roll will be published on February 21, 2026. (ANI)
