Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Sunday praised the Election Commission of India for conducting Special Intensive Revision throughout the country, adding that the names of several infiltrators who were staying illegally in Bihar were removed from the voter list.

Speaking to reporters, Pathak said, "The Election Commission of India has undertaken a major campaign through SIR to create a transparent and fair voter list. The way the fair voter list was prepared in Bihar. Many people who were infiltrators disappeared from there. Not a single objection was recorded. The Election Commission of India has taken a highly commendable step."

The Deputy CM further appealed to the residents of UP to fill out the SIR form, which is currently underway here.

"Fill out and submit their enumeration forms at the earliest so that it can be identified who is an infiltrator and who is an outsider, and a correct voter list can be prepared," he said.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced a revised schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 States and Union Territories, extending several key deadlines by one week.

Under the revised timeline, the qualifying date for enrolment has been extended to January 1, 2026. The final electoral roll, which was earlier scheduled to be published on February 7, 2026, will now be released on February 14, 2026.

The second phase of the SIR exercise covers Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, following the successful completion of the first phase in Bihar. (ANI)
