Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday, alleged that the family of the Dalit man, Hariom Valmiki, was "locked" in their house and threatened not to meet him.

However, a family member has denied Rahul Gandhi's allegations and said that the UP government has extended complete support to the family.

"We talked to Rahul Gandhi, and he assured us of all possible help. We told him that the government is supporting us and is taking the necessary steps. The administration has not stopped us from going out. We did not agree to meet Rahul Gandhi because we were getting all the help from the government," Hariom Valmiki's brother told reporters outside his house.

Rahul Gandhi met with the victim's family in Fatehpur on Friday morning. After the meeting, a Congress MP alleged that the Uttar Pradesh administration tried to stop the family from meeting them.

"In Uttar Pradesh, the administration is busy intimidating the victim's family. They even tried to stop the family from meeting me. This is the same failure of the system, which every time becomes a shield for the culprits and puts the victim in the dock," Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also backed Ragul Gandhi's allegations as she shared the LoP's statement on X handle.

In a separate video posted on Congress handle, the family thanked Rahul Gandhi for his assurance of justice and called him a "messiah"

"Rahul Gandhi ji came to meet us today. He is our messiah, we want him to deliver justice for us," the family said.

Hariom Valmiki was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people who "mistook him for a thief" in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, according to police.

In a series of actions after the incident, Uttar Pradesh Police have removed the Unchahar police station chief, Sanjay Kumar and suspended five officials. The police have arrested more than 10 people linked to the incident. (ANI)
