Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that the government should not interfere in Waqf, after the Supreme Court refused to stay the entire law but put on hold certain provisions of it.

Yadav added that he hopes the court will ensure full justice in the case.

Speaking at the press conference, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Our opinion was that the government should not interfere in Waqf. We hope the Supreme Court will do further justice."

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court refused to stay the entire Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, but put on hold certain provisions pending the final adjudication of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Act. A bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih observed that some sections of the amended Act need some protection.

Yadav further assured the Vishwakarma community of full support, promising to dedicate a place to Lord Vishwakarma on the riverfront.

"We assure the people belonging to the Vishwakarma community that we will stand by them. We will dedicate a place to Lord Vishwakarma on the riverfront...I am certain that we all will support each other in the 2027 elections to make a Samajwadi party government for social justice," Yadav said.

Yadav slammed the state of cleanliness and development in Uttar Pradesh, and said that cities are being falsely shown as clean while garbage piles up on the streets.

He questioned why important topics like AI, power plants, and smart city plans are being ignored.

"...As far as a sadhu we are talking about, he wants that no one should debate on AI, no one should debate on power plants, expressways, how our rivers should be cleaned, the dream of a smart city was shown, but there are heaps of garbage in the city...This is the state," Yadav said.

"I don't know which organisation comes to spread lies in the cities that the three cities of UP are top 3 in cleanliness, such organisations should be blacklisted...I don't know what the matter is that changes are not coming to Gorakhpur, we are waiting for when the boat will run there," he added.

While speaking to the reporters, Yadav said that rising prices, unemployment, and poor law and order can only be fixed if the BJP steps down.

On the SIR matter, he added that he hopes the court will ask the Election Commission to correct the voter list.

"...We hope that the Supreme Court will get the voter list corrected from the Election Commission," Yadav said.

He further said, "Inflation will be controlled only when the BJP steps aside. Employment will be available only when the BJP goes. Law and order will be implemented only when the BJP leave..." (ANI)
