The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has dismissed the news reports circulating on social media claiming that e-challans issued against department vehicles would be cancelled.

The officials clarified that no such proposal exists and termed the rumours "false and baseless."

In a press release, Transport Commissioner CH Nagaraju said, "It is learnt that there is fake news going around on some social media channels that the Motor Vehicle Department is contemplating the cancellation of E-challans issued against department vehicles."

"This is an absolutely false and baseless rumour created with the intention to harm public interest. There is no such proposal or discussion in the department. Road safety-related violations and e-challans issued against MVD vehicles will be treated seriously by the department."

"It is also to inform that the e-challans once issued cannot be cancelled by anyone. The department does not have the legal authority to cancel a challan once it has been issued. Only the Courts have the authority," he said.

"This rumour is created with the intention to misguide citizens and make them less compliant with traffic laws. It is harmful for road users' safety if Motor Vehicle Laws are not complied with by anyone, including department drivers. It is once again reiterated that there is no iota of truth in the fake news," he said further in the press release. (ANI)
