Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday hit out at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks on farmers, and stated that while the Leader of the Oppostion in the Rajya Sabha compared himself with a very small farmer, it was habitual for the All India Congress Party to speak lightly and arrogantly with farmers.

Addressing reporters here, Joshi said "It is in the DNA of the Congress party; they speak very lightly and arrogantly with the farmers. Mallikarjun Kharge is comparing himself with a very small farmer... Mallikarjun Kharge says that his 40 acres of land have been lost, but he has got at least a few hundred acres of land... He tells the farmer that he is coming for publicity purposes... DK Shivakumar is threatening farmers... One sitting minister says that farmers are committing suicide because we are giving them compensation..."

This criticism comes after a purported video of Kharge's interaction with farmers took over social media, where the Congress national president allegedly told farmers not to approach him just for the sake of publicity and compared the grieving loss of the farmers to his own, where he repeatedly said "Yours may have four acres affected, but mine has 40 acres ruined."

Meanwhile, speaking on the Vice Presidential elections to be held tomorrow, the Union Minister asserted confidence on the win of NDA.

"The entire NDA is coming with a huge majority, and many more people are voting for us," Joshi said.

The Vice Presidential post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on July 21, citing health reasons.

The VP is elected by an electoral college, which consists of MPs from both houses of Parliament.

The elections of the Vice President are governed by the provisions under Articles 64 and 68 of the Constitution. The Election Commission notifies the VP polls by the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952.As per Article 66(1) of the Constitution of India, the election of the Vice President shall be held by the system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote, and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.
