Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi on Thursday held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the death of a person after a tree fell on him due to heavy rains in the national capital.

The man was killed while his daughter, Priya (22), was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, as per the Delhi Police.

Speaking to ANI, Atishi claimed that this was not the first death in the city, further stating that it was the failure of the four-engine BJP government.

"This morning, a tree got uprooted due to rain on Hansraj Sethi Marg and a person died, his daughter is admitted in AIIMS. This is not the first death due to rain in Delhi... This is the failure of the four-engine BJP government..." Atishi told ANI.

She further stated that the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Sharma should remove the Public Work Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma from the cabinet, further stating that someone had to be held responsible for the loss of life and property in the city.

"Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta should remove PWD Minister Parvesh Verma from the cabinet. Someone has to take responsibility for the loss of life and property..." she further added.

Earlier in the day, a man, identified as Sudhir Kumar, was declared dead by AIIMS Trauma Care Centre after he, along with his daughter, identified as Priya (22), was rushed to the Centre, stated the Delhi Police.

This comes after they were trapped beneath the fallen tree, owing to heavy rains, near Paras Chowk, Kalkaji, New Delhi, the Delhi Police told ANI.

Describing more on the incident, the Delhi Police told ANI, "One of the injured, Sudhir Kumar, aged 50 years, passed away during treatment."

"At approximately 9:50 AM, an old roadside Neem tree fell in front of HDFC Bank near Paras Chowk, Kalkaji. As a result, two individuals riding a motorcycle, Sudhir Kumar (age 50) and his daughter, Priya (age 22), were trapped beneath the fallen tree," they said.
