The Congress Party Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha, Akhilesh Prasad Singh on Monday gave notice under Rule 267, concerning "free and fair elections".

In the letter to the Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha, Singh stated, "That this House suspend Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to discuss the concerns around the conduct of free and fair elections."

The letter further read, "High levels of migration, displacement, and documentation-related vulnerabilities in certain states affect voting participation and require particular attention, as they raise grave apprehensions about the disenfranchisement of a large section of the poor and marginalised."

In addition to this, Congress Party's Syed Naseer Hussain, from Karnataka, also issued a notice of motion to the Secretary-General, to "suspend Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to discuss the issues affecting the credibility and inclusiveness of the electoral systems."

The issued notice by the upper house MP, Hussain's letter further read, "Serious concerns have risen about the exclusion of already precarious communities from the electoral rolls, particularly in the absence of adequate safeguards, transparency, and due process in their implementation."

Meanwhile, Members of Parliament from Opposition parties in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are set to march from Makar Dwar in Parliament to the Election Commission office at Nirvachan Sadan on Monday. The march will begin at 11:30 AM and proceed via Transport Bhawan.
