After Maulana Sajid Rashidi made a derogatory remark against SP MP Dimple Yadav, LJP (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary on Monday stated that it was an attack on a woman's dignity based on communal grounds.
Choudhary said that all parties, regardless of ideology, should unite to stand for women's rights and respect. Speaking to ANI, Choudhary said, "We are raising our voice against the way a woman's dignity was targeted based on communalism. The party may have any ideology, but we must come together for the dignity of women." She also criticised Akhilesh Yadav for not speaking up in support of his wife, calling it political silence and blaming it on the Samajwadi Party's appeasement politics. "What is most shameful is that Akhilesh Yadav did not raise his voice in support of his wife for the sake of his politics... The way Sajid Rashidi has spoken against Dimple Yadav is not acceptable... Samajwadi Party's politics of appeasement," Choudhary added. While BJP MP Medha Kulkarni said she was shocked by Akhilesh Yadav's silence on the issue. She said the remark was unacceptable and shows the extreme level of appeasement politics. "I am shocked why he (Akhilesh Yadav) is silent against whose wife the remark has been made. The limits of appeasement politics have been crossed," Kulkarni said. Earlier in the day, NDA MPs held a protest outside the Parliament against All India Imam Association (AIIA) President Moulana Sajid Rashidi. Maulana Rashidi has been heavily criticised for his alleged remarks targeting the Samajwadi MP for not covering her head while visiting a mosque in Delhi with her husband and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said that instead of protesting over his comment, BJP leaders should have spoken out on the Manipur incident. She said it would have been better if they had supported the women of Manipur and stood with the army during Operation Sindoor. Speaking to the reporters, Dimple Yadav said, "... It would have been better if they had protested against the Manipur incident, the videos of which were viral on social media. It would have been better had they stood with the women of Manipur. The way the leaders of the BJP gave statements on our army officers during Operation Sindoor, it would have been better if they (NDA) stood with them..." (ANI)
