Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticised the Nitish Kumar-led double-engine government in the state over the prevailing law and order situation.

He said that there have been 97 cases of murder in the past seven days.

"97 murders in 1 day in Bihar. Prime Minister, Chief Minister and two Deputy Chief Ministers all useless, criminals are the real government," Yadav, also the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Bihar legislative assembly, posted on X.

Citing several incidents of murder in various districts of Bihar, the RJD leader alleged that criminals were thriving in the state because the "government is sick".

"Murder of a prisoner in Samastipur. Murder of a businessman in Saran. Murder of a sarpanch in Samastipur. Murder of a trader in Begusarai. Murder of an ITBP jawan on leave. Murder of a businessman in Muzaffarpur. Kidnapping and murder of an elderly person in Gaya. Woman shot dead in Patna. Hail of bullets on two brothers, one murdered," Tejashwi Yadav said.

On Friday, Yadav launched a scathing attack on the ruling NDA alliance in the state, alleging that "one engine is engaged in crime, another in corruption."

Taking a swipe at the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan said on Saturday that he is "saddened to support such a government," which is unable to curb the rising crime rate.

The union minister said that he does believe that reports of incidents of rising crimes such as murders, looting and more are a "conspiracy" to defame the government ahead of the assembly elections. He also said that the responsibility ultimately lies with the state government itself to control law and order.

The Bihar Assembly elections are expected later this year, tentatively in October or November, though the ECI has yet to announce official dates. (ANI)
