Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday slammed the Jharkhand government for renaming their Atal Mohalla Clinics to Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinics.

Speaking to the media, Dubey said that Mother Teresa should be honoured separately, rather than trying to "erase" the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The BJP leader further said Chief Minister Hemant Soren seems to be "preparing to go to jail again," looking at the activities of the state government.

"There is no problem with Mother Teresa. She was a foreigner. If you want to do something in the name of Mother Teresa, do it separately. Erasing someone's name to establish another's name will not bring peace to Mother Teresa's soul," Nishikant Dubey said.

The BJP MP also said that the renaming of the clinics to remove the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is an insult to him, especially since the Jharkhand state was formed under his prime ministership in 2000.

Calling the renaming of clinics a condemnable act, Dubey added, "The state government has done a very wrong and condemnable act. From the activities of the state government, I can say that the Chief Minister is preparing to go to jail again."

The Jharkhand cabinet on Thursday (July 24) decided to approve the renaming of Atal Mohalla clinics, among 20 other proposals.

According to NITI Aayog, the clinics were first established in 2019 to provide free and comprehensive primary healthcare services, with the aim of bridging the healthcare gap and earning the trust of the local population. The clinics also help ease the burden on larger hospitals, providing treatment for basic illnesses, giving lab tests, and providing free medicines.

The Jharkhand cabinet also approved the Jharkhand University Bill 2025, a pay increment for employees retiring within a few months. (ANI)
