Congress leader Udit Raj on Thursday said that the Press Information Bureau's (PIB) fact check, which clarified that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's residence was not sealed, has now cleared the confusion.

As the PIB dismissed the social media rumours, Udit Raj told ANI, "Last evening, the media asked questions, and numerous reports circulated on social media and various channels, claiming that his house had been sealed and that the social media team had been dismissed. Now, PIB has clarified the matter, and it is confirmed that his house has not been sealed, nor has the social media team been ousted. This clears up the confusion."

Debunking the rumour on Wednesday, PIB said that the former Vice President has not been asked to vacate his residence immediately.

"It is being widely claimed on social media that Vice President's official residence has been sealed and former VP has been asked to vacate his residence immediately. These claims are Fake. Don't fall for misinformation. Always verify news from official sources before sharing it," the PIB fact check said on X.

The post by the PIB's fact-check unit urged the people "not to fall for misinformation" and always verify news from official sources.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has initiated preparations for the election to the office of the Vice-President of India following Dhankhar's resignation on Monday.

According to the ECI, the preparation of the Electoral College, which consists of elected as well as nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, the finalisation of the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officers, and the preparation and dissemination of background material on all previous Vice-Presidential elections have already begun.

The Chair of the Vice-President of India was vacated after the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post. The post has been vacated nearly two years before the scheduled end of Dhankhar's term.

Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening "to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice". (ANI)
