Revolutionary Socialist Party MP NK Premachandran on Tuesday said that health cannot be the sole reason behind Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation.

Premachandran noted that before Dhankhar's resignation was announced, all proceedings and meetings were chaired by him. The RSP MP suspected that political reasons were behind the incident.

"This cannot be believed...I don't think it's due to health reasons...Yesterday, the entire proceedings of the house were controlled and chaired by him...Health reasons alone cannot be the sole reason for resignation. Maybe some other political reason or other," Premachandran told ANI.

On Monday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post "to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice."

Earlier today, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Member of Parliament (MP) Mahua Maji stated that Vice President Dhankhar's resignation is "very shocking" and that there should be "clarity" on the matter, as everyone is "making assumptions."

"This is very shocking for everyone. He could have resigned after the conclusion of the Monsoon session. Everyone is making assumptions regarding the reason behind Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar's resignation. There should be clarity on it," said Maji.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Tuesday also questioned the Central government over Vice President Dhankhar's resignation.

Referring to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh's X post, which alleged "deeper reasons" behind the resignation, Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded that the government inform the reason behind the decision and also recalled the non-confidence motion against Dhankhar in December 2024.

Speaking to ANI, she said, "For the first time in the history of India, a no-confidence motion was signed by over 50 members of the Parliament because of the partisan manner in which the House was being conducted. He (VP Jagdeep Dhankhar) was a partisan. It is for the government to tell us what the reason was for the sudden resignation, because he seemed in fine health."

She added that despite the health concerns, Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar used to conduct parliamentary proceedings. (ANI)
