At least three to four vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar River after a portion of the Gambhira bridge collapsed in Padra area of Gujarat's Vadodara district on Wednesday morning, Anand Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Jasani said.
"A part of the bridge connecting Anand and Vadodara has collapsed. Three to four vehicles have fallen into the river. Rescue operations are underway," Anand SP Gaurav Jasani said, while speaking to ANI. The Gambhira bridge, which connects the Vadodara and Anand districts of Gujarat, collapsed in Padra on Wednesday. Following the incident, local administration teams rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. Secretary, Roads and Buildings Department, PR Patelia, said a team of technical experts has also been dispatched to assess the situation. "We have got information of damage to Gambhira bridge which led to an accident. A team of experts has been sent to the site of the incident," PR Patelia told the reporters. Visuals from the scene showed a large section of the bridge caved in, with emergency responders deployed along the riverbank. Meanwhile, the Congress party shared a video of the collapsed structure on the social media platform X and alleged that the bridge collapse had resulted in casualties.
