Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended a workshop on 'Astronomy and Indian Knowledge Tradition' held at Dongla in Ujjain district on Saturday.

Addressing the workshop, CM Yadav said, "Dongla is an important center for time calculation and it holds a special place in the country's heritage. Efforts will be made to promote Dongla at the global level and special attention will be given to the continuous modernization of the observatory established here."

He further noted the state government is committed to promoting scientific management and research. Further research on ancient Indian knowledge traditions will be actively encouraged.

Chief Minister Yadav added that organizing a workshop on Indian knowledge tradition in Dongla on the occasion of International Yoga Day holds special significance. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing International Yoga Day on the global stage.

"Our ancient knowledge is invaluable and the government is committed to addressing contemporary challenges by harmonizing ancient Indian wisdom with modern science," the CM said.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the Union Ministry of Education, New Delhi and the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST) in the presence of CM Yadav.

Under the MoU, work will be carried out on the certification, documentation and standardization of the Indian Knowledge Tradition. On this occasion, the poster of the National Drone and Robotics Hackathon, to be organized on the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, was also unveiled. Along with this, the poster for the International Conference to be organized jointly by the Indian Knowledge System and MPCST in January next year was also released.

According to an official release, Dongla, located in Mahidpur tehsil of Ujjain district, lies on the Tropic of Cancer and holds significant astronomical and astrological importance since ancient times. In 2013, the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology established the Varahamihira Astronomical Observatory in Dongla to further the legacy of India's scientific traditions. (ANI)
