AAP MP Vikramjeet Singh Sahney on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for strengthening the ties between the two nations, calling it a 'reboot' of the relationship.

AAP MP Vikramjeet Singh Sahney said, "It's a matter of great heartening that a few hours back in Canada at Kananaskis, Alberta, our Prime Minister had fruitful discussions with the Prime Minister of Canada and both leaders agreed to the much-awaited reboot of India-Canada relationship which was temporarily fractured by some unpleasant developments in Canada..."

Sahney said that the majority of the Indian diaspora and the Sikh diaspora in North America are patriotic.

"The Government of Canada could not take any action and was a silent spectator to this, whereas the majority of the Indian diaspora, Sikh diaspora in North America, are patriotic... I think today was very essential that both countries have agreed to restart their diplomatic relations at the full level," he told ANI.

He told ANI that the Indian High Commissioner will soon join Ottawa and their counterpart will begin operations in India.

"It was in October last year that the High Commissioner of Canada was recalled as a protest of India to these activities but now Indian High Commissioner will soon join Ottawa and vice versa. There was an emerging need for rebooting this relationship, which also eases the travel and visas..." he said.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday called PM Narendra Modi's recent visit to Canada, a "hard slap" on Khalistani extremist forces, noting that it will improve "shortcomings and problems" in bilateral relations between the two nations.

"These people (Khalistani extremists) say that they will protest because someone funds them. But now, since they did not get the funds, they protested against their funding provider. Now, the newly elected Prime Minister of Canada said that the country is honoured to work with India on artificial intelligence, energy, and against terrorism. Who commits terrorism there? These are the people who get misguided from here, and Pakistan funds them. I think this formulation in itself is a hard slap on those forces," Puri stated.

PM Modi visited Canada to attend the 51st G7 Summit at the invitation of his counterpart, Carney. (ANI)
