Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said people want to get rid of the JD(U)-BJP government in the upcoming Assembly polls in Bihar adding that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is acting in an "unconscious state" recently.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, expressed confidence of his party's win in the Assembly polls.

"Elections are going to be held in Bihar in the coming time. People are upset with the current government that has been in power for 20 years, people want change. People are very upset with the current government and want to get rid of it. The Chief Minister is in an unconscious state... We have new thinking. We have to create a new Bihar and take Bihar forward rapidly. We want to do positive politics, politics of issues... I am fully confident that this time the people of Bihar will overthrow this government. We have a vision, a roadmap. People want to join RJD," Tejashwi Yadav said.

On the launch of the party's new portal 'Let's Make Bihar Better', RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the initiative aims to put an end to poor governance of the Nitish Kumar-led government.

"Any individual who wants to work voluntarily for the party and its ideology -- especially towards building a new Bihar is welcome. The state still faces issues like poverty and low income, and with positive thinking, we have to move forward to shape a better Bihar. Through this portal, people can register themselves and contribute towards ending the 20-year-old rule," he said.

On the caste census, Tejashwi Yadav said that BJP has no real intention of conducting a caste census.

"It is only due to the pressure mounted by the opposition that the caste census is happening," he said.

Earlier, Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor appealed to the people of Bihar to support a new alternative in the state in the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls.

"I am not asking for votes...I have walked to five thousand villages for the past 2.5 years, gathering many people and forming a party 'Jan Suraaj'...You have seen the rule of Lalu Prasad Yadav, PM Modi, Nitish Kumar...Now, there should be people's rule, 'Jan Suraaj' in Bihar," he said.

Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held later this year. (ANI)
