BJP President and current BJP MLA from Tirunelveli, Nainar Nagendran, on Thursday hinted at a possible change in responsibilities for former state president K Annamalai within the party. However, the specifics have yet to be confirmed.

"Former BJP state president Annamalai may be assigned a different responsibility within the party," said Nagendran while speaking to mediapersons.

This comes after Nagendran was appointed the new Tamil Nadu BJP chief, who succeeded Annamalai in April this year. The move to replace Annamalai is seen as a strategic shift to strengthen the party's alliance with the AIADMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Nagendran's appointment is expected to leverage his experience in the AIADMK government.

Notably, Annamalai decided to take a three-month break from active politics to attend a fellowship on leadership in London offered by the United Kingdom's Foreign Office.

The newly appointed Tamil Nadu BJP President, Nagendran, also participated in Tiranga Yatra in Chennai on Wednesday, supporting India's action against Pakistan, saluting the courage of Indian soldiers.

During his recent visit to Tiruchirappalli, the BJP President emphasised the need for strict punishment for alcohol abusers and criticised the state government for not addressing these issues effectively.

Nagendran also mentioned a recent event in Chennai where over 10,000 people participated, highlighting the party's efforts to raise awareness and promote discipline. (ANI)
