In a significant step in the utilisation of waste disposal, Lucknow division of Northern Railway will now produce end products such as plastic items, cardboard, and compost from the garbage falling on the railway tracks, an official said.

Speaking to ANI, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow Division, SM Sharma said, "We have created a material recovery facility, the benefit of which will be that we will segregate the garbage that comes now, we will make end products from biodegradable and non-biodegradable, some plastic items will also be made, some cardboard will be made and some manure manure will also be made."

DRM Sharma said that five to six tonnes of garbage are generated here daily.

When asked on how railways are preparing for security following the terror attack, Sharma said, "deployment of RPF was already increased at the stations, we have got extra force which we have deployed in Ayodhya and Banaras, we are fixing the security barracks...we have also converted our old running rooms into barracks in Ayodhya and Prayagraj, so that there is no shortage of staff there and we can use as many people as possible as per our convenience."

On the arrangements for the ongoing summer season, railway official said that adequate drinking water tanks have been installed at most of the stations, including big stations like Varanasi, Lucknow, and Ayodhya.

"Apart from this, we are also talking to local NGOs at small stations, if NGOs want to run drinking water tanks at the station, then we will facilitate them, along with this, our own volunteers, our scout guide children help every time, we are also taking their help, we are also working to reach our common people through them, we are also providing ORS and all such things to our own employees," he said.

When asked on what steps railways are taking to remove illegal enroachment, Sharma highlighted, "people have also done farming on railway land, they are being pushed back and notices are served to all, we are protecting all our boundaries, there are many such structures which are coming in our stations area and buildings."

The official further said that railway authorities remain in alert mode and fencing work is being done so that the cattle of the people do not come on the railway land. (ANI)
