Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday slammed the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Boston, and said that it has become a habit of the Congress to make "absurd statements" and spoil the atmosphere of the country.

"It means that when Congress wins, the Election Commission is right, and if Congress loses, the Election Commission is wrong. So, it has become a habit of Congress to make absurd statements and to spoil the atmosphere of the country by making absurd statements against the important constitutional institutions of the country, but the public mandate is with the BJP, and we have won," Maurya told ANI.

While addressing the Indian Diaspora in Boston, United States, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission (EC) in India was "compromised" stating that there was something fundamentally wrong with the system.

Citing the example of the Maharashtra elections, the senior Congress leader said that there was an addition of 65 lakh voters to the voter list in two hours, which was impossible.

"More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible," he claimed, addressing the meeting.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Kumar Nishad attacked Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Election Commission in Boston.

"There is a saying in Ramayan, one sees what he thinks...All these parties have been in politics for the past 70 years, misusing their powers...and at that time, they received protection from these agencies. Today, they are getting punished in our regime," he said. (ANI)
