Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Monday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and accused them of using religion to spread hate and cause riots for political gains.

Congress leader Singh made the remark while speaking to reporters in the Indore district in response to a question about the violence in Murshidabad in West Bengal. He also highlighted the recent Guna (Madhya Pradesh) stone-pelting incident in his response without taking its name, saying, "Why does the administration give permission to take out processions with a DJ system in front of mosques?"

"What is the reason that some organisations which spread hate and riots are permitted to take out processions with a DJ system in front of mosques? Why does the administration give permission for such things? It should not be given. Supreme Court guidelines are not being followed. If the government follows the SC guidelines, then there will be no riots. Double-engine government has the mentality of spreading hate and causing riots. But slowly, people are understanding that the BJP and RSS have nothing to do with religion but spread hate and cause riots for political gains- this is their religion and politics. That is why I oppose them," Singh said.

He further added, "I want to say that the ideology which led to the killing of Mahatma Gandhi, even today, is walking on the same path. Their MPs and professors call Nathuram Godse a patriot. The person who killed Mahatma Gandhi can never be a patriot, he is a traitor."

It is worth noting that a clash broke out during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh on April 12 when the procession was passing near the Colonelganj Mosque. According to the police, stone-pelting occurred following the exchange of slogans between members of two communities.

SP Sanjeev Kumar Sinha then said that a few people were injured in the incident and the situation was under control.

"The procession was passing near Colonelganj Mosque, during which slogans were raised among the two communities. We got to know that stone pelting also took place, in which some people have been injured. Force was immediately sent as soon as the information was received. The situation was brought under control within 15-20 minutes," Sinha told ANI on Saturday, April 12. (ANI)
