Criticising RJD leader and Bihar LoP Tejashwi Yadav over his comments on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday said that Yadav is against the poor Pasmanda Muslims and doesn't want them to get their rights.

"The laws passed by the Parliament are implemented in the whole country. The Parliament belongs to the whole country. Tejashwi Yadav is against the poor Pasmanda Muslims. He does not want poor Muslims and women to get their rights. This law is made to give rights to poor Muslims and women and not to the contractors of Tejashwi Yadav," Singh told reporters.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear a batch of petitions challenging the validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, on April 16, 2025.

However, intervention applications were filed in the Supreme Court in support of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, saying the amendments are in consonance with the scheme of the Constitution of India.

The Central government had also filed caveat application in the Supreme Court urging it to hear the government in the petitions filed before it challenging validity of Waqf (Amendment) Act.

Earlier on April 5, Tejashwi Yadav strongly opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, declaring that if his party returns to power in Bihar, the Bill would be "thrown in the dustbin."

Addressing reporters in Patna, Yadav condemned the bill and said, "We will form the government and throw this (Waqf Amendment Bill) in the dustbin."

Yadav also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would continue its alliance with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar only until the upcoming state assembly elections scheduled for October 2025.

"BJP will keep Nitish Kumar with them until the elections. After that, both we and the people of Bihar know very well what will happen to him," he added.

President Droupadi Murmu on April 5 gave her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was earlier passed by Parliament after heated debates in both Houses. (ANI)
