UP: Lucknow receives light rain; IMD forecasts "partly cloudy skies"

Several parts of Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh received a fresh spell of light rainfall on Thursday morning, bringing a little respite from soaring temperature.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers for Lucknow from April 10-11.

The maximum temperature will reach the mark of 38 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will hover around 24 degrees Celsius.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed the officials of the concerned districts to conduct relief work with full promptness in view of rain, hailstorm, storm and lightning. He said that the officials should visit the area, keep an eye on the relief work, and provide help to the affected people.

The Chief Minister has also instructed that the damage to the crops should be assessed, and a report should be made available to the government so that further action can be taken in this regard.

Meanwhile, speaking about the weather forecast in Punjab and Haryana, IMD scientist Surender Paul said that there were heatwave conditions in parts of Punjab and Haryana for the last 2-3 days but there are chances of rain in parts of western Punjab and north and northeastern Haryana in the next 2-3 days.

Earlier, in a separate incident, as many as 13 people lost their lives after lightning struck in four districts of Bihar - Begusarai, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Samastipur- according to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

As per the CMO, five people were killed in Begusarai, four in Darbhanga, and three in Madhubani, while Samastipur recorded one fatality.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed his condolences over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia grant of four lakh rupees to the families of all the deceased. (ANI)
