Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday lauded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers for their efforts to volunteer for the visually impaired and said that Madhav Netralaya would prove crucial for treating eye diseases.

While addressing a gathering at the event, Fadnavis expressed happiness as the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of Madhav Netralaya, which is an extension building of Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute and Research Centre in Nagpur.

"It is a matter of happiness that the foundation stone of Madhav Netralaya has been laid today. There is no greater divine work than giving sight to the visually impaired, and this work has been done by Sangh volunteers for the last 30 years," Fadnavis said.

The Maharashtra CM said that Madhav Netralaya would emerge as a crucial institute for eye diseases for the entire central belt in India.

"Madhav Netralaya in Nagpur will emerge as an important institute for eye diseases, not only for Vidarbha and Maharashtra but also for the entire Central India. Madhav Netralaya has done the work of brightening the lives of many. It is very important to have such an institution in the country," Fadnavis added.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

PM Modi was accompanied by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, among other leaders.

Madhav Netralaya is an eye institute and research centre that aims to provide world-class Tertiary Ophthalmic services with compassion, precision, and innovation.

The centre has a whole team of highly skilled ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and support staff. It also engages in community engagement through various community outreach programs, educational initiatives, and vision screenings to promote eye health awareness.

The centre will have various departments, including Cornea, refractive surgery, LASIK, Retinal Vitreous, Glaucoma, Cataract Surgery, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Ocular immunology, uveitis, Oculoplasty, oncology, and Low vision services.

People can also register for eye donations and volunteer at the centre. According to the centre, the hospital timings will be from 9 AM to 8 PM every day. (ANI)
