A day after Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), moved the Karnataka High Court, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the company is within its rights to move the court, but the "law applies equally" and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that all platforms have to be "safe and trustworthy."

"India is a country where the law applies to everybody. 'X' is within its right to go to court to challenge what it believes is unlawful. I said in Jan 2024 that any platform introduced to Indian consumers and the Indian market must be clear that it is not an experimental platform. If it is experimental, it must disclose that to the user. You can't have an erroneous AI platform," Chandrashekhar told ANI.

Assuring that the law will prevail in India, the BJP leader added, "In India, the PM has made clear that the platforms have to be safe and trustworthy. Unlike China, India is a country where the law will prevail."

On March 20, the company X moved the Karnataka High Court, challenging the union government's use of Section 79 (3)(b) of the Information Technology Act and the creation and use of the Sahyog government portal.

The company has alleged that the union government has "misused" the section, and has given illegal content blocking orders through the platform Sahyog.

Earlier on March 20, sources from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that they have not sent a notice to the platform and its intelligence vertical Grok over the chatbot purportedly using Hindi slang in its reply. Sources said that the ministry is in talks with the platforms to understand what law it is violating.

The sources said that Meity officials are interacting with X officials and examining at what stage it specifically violated and which Indian law has been violated.

The source said, "Meity has not sent any notice to Grok or X. Meity is in talks with X and Grok to understand what law it is violating." (ANI)
