"Govt launched multi-pronged strategy to strengthen national security, law enforcement, across India": MoS Nityanand Rai

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Tuesday said that the government has launched a multi-pronged strategy to strengthen national security, law enforcement and governance across India.

In a written response to Lok Sabha, the MoS said that new measures proposed in the Budget to strengthen internal security in the current financial year inter-alia, include measures to make Jammu and Kashmir terror-free by eliminating terror networks.

"Integrate insurgent groups into the peace process and strengthen border security to curb infiltration in North East. Eliminate Left-Wing Extremism," he added.

The MoS further said that the deployment of mobile forensic labs in all districts and the modernization of state forensic labs.

"Implementing new criminal laws with an aim to modernize the Criminal Justice System by integrating police, judiciary, forensics, prisons and prosecution into a seamless digital system, enhancing crime prevention and justice delivery, and improving criminal investigations".

The Minister said that new measures were proposed to modernize the Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) through advanced security equipment.

"Automation and enhanced inter-operability between forces along with welfare initiatives in housing and healthcare," he added.

He further they will strengthen cybercrime infrastructure through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C), cyber fraud mitigation centres.

"Suspect Registry, Cyber-Commando wing and a National Cyber Threat Intelligence system to proactively counter digital threats. Enhance border security through technological upgradation such as drones, surveillance systems and fencing along vulnerable borders," he said.

Earlier, the central government also approved a scheme of 'Assistance to States and Union Territories for Modernization of Police (ASUMP)' [erstwhile scheme of Modernization of State Police Forces (MPF)] with an overall outlay of Rs 4846 crore for five years during the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

The MoS said that the objective of the scheme is to equip the State/UT police forces adequately through the development of relevant infrastructure. (ANI)
