BJP leader Locket Chatterjee highlighted the party's growing momentum by pointing to its recent victories in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana and expressed hope that the BJP will gain victory in 2026 elections in West Bengal. "There is an organisational election in BJP, and different meetings are being held in different states. BJP won in Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana and other states, and therefore, people have a different enthusiasm with regard to BJP, and we hope it will win in West Bengal as well in the 2026 elections," said Chatterjee.

The assembly polls in West Bengal are due next year and are expected to be held in March-April 2026 to elect all 294 West Bengal Legislative Assembly members.

The Bharatiya Janata Party bagged fewer seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls than in the 2019 edition.

Earlier West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fell in soup after her remarks over Mahakumbh.

West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari and other BJP MLAs raised slogans and protested against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her "Mrityu Kumbh" remark on the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025, in Raj Bhavan premises.

On Thursday, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari, along with other BJP MLAs, also met Governor CV Ananda Bose.

Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, "Mamata Banerjee gave compensation of Rs 10 lakh to Hajj pilgrims who died 10 years ago. Approximately 50 of us BJP legislators met the governor today and demanded that she also give compensation of the same amount to the three people who died in the Maha Kumbh stampede."

"We have also demanded that the Governor should direct the Assembly Speaker to expunge this filthy word (Mrityu Kumbh) from the proceedings of the House," he added.

BJP workers on Wednesday also staged a protest in Kolkata against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and denounced her "Mrityu-Kumbh" remarks.

The protests were led by the Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar.

"The way Mamata Banerjee has insulted the Hindus and Hindu religion, there should be protests against her in the entire country. We have written to the Governor to take action on the matter," he told ANI.

Mamata Banerjee, in her statement, while addressing the Legislative Assembly, expressed her respect for the holy 'Ganga Maa' and the significance of the Mahakumbh but strongly criticised the organisers for the inadequate arrangements that resulted in stampedes on January 29 in Prayagraj and February 15 in New Delhi Railway Station.

Mamata Banerjee said, "This is 'Mrityu Kumbh'...I respect Mahakumbh; I respect the holy Ganga Maa. But there is no planning...How many people have recovered?" (ANI)
