"Hope that they fulfil promises": Congress Punjab President Amarinder Raja Warring on Rekha Gupta becoming Delhi CM

Shortly after Rekha Gupta took charge as Delhi CM Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring threw down a challenge to her. Warring stated that now the promises made to the people of Delhi should be fulfilled as it has a BJP government and the governor is also theirs.

Speaking to ANI, PPCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said on Thursday, "Now Delhi has a BJP government, and the Governor is also theirs, so they can't make any excuses. I hope that they fulfil the promises they made to the people of Delhi..."

BJP returned to power in Delhi after a long gap of 27 years and Rekha Gupta, MLA from Shalimar Bagh took oath as the ninth overall and fourth woman CM of Delhi. Along with Gupta, Parvesh Verma (Deputy CM), Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ashish Sood and Ravinder Indraj Singh took oath as cabinet ministers.

The mega event held at the Ramlila Maidan was attended by several top BJP and NDA leaders. These included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, health minister and BJP president JP Nadda.

Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, Nayab Singh Saini, Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak, Bhajanlal Sharma, Diya Kumari and others were present in Rekha Gupta's oath-taking ceremony.

Speaking to ANI, Andhra CM Naidu emphasized that every citizen of the country would take pride in the developments that will unfold in the capital."We are going to see a new change in Delhi, and also, it will be a different Delhi from now...It (tenure) will not only be smooth but there will be extraordinary performance. Every citizen of this country will be proud of it...We are very happy; now new era has started in Delhi. Excellent development is going to take place," the Andhra Pradesh CM said.

"For the last 10 years, it didn't work well in Delhi. Now, it is a new era," he added.

BJP ended up winning a historic elections in Delhi with 48 seats out of 70 and ended Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party's 11-year old rule. AAP was reduced from 62 to 22 seats whereas Congress could not open their account in the third consecutive legislative assembly elections.

Rekha Gupta was chosen as BJP Delhi legislative party leader on Wednesday in the presence of observers Ravishankar Prasad and Tarun Chugh. Gupta defeated AAP's Bandana Kumari by 29,565 votes in the Shalimar Bagh constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly 2025 elections. (ANI)
