"Constantly monitoring operations": Delhi LG VK Saxena on stampede at New Delhi Railway Station

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries caused by a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station.

The LG said that he is personally monitoring the operations to ensure that all necessary steps are being taken to support the affected families.

Taking to social media platform X, Saxena posted, "There has been an unfortunate and tragic incident of loss of lives and injuries due to disorder & stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My deepest condolences to the families of victims of this tragedy."

LG Saxena has instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to take immediate action to redress the situation. The Chief Secretary has been directed to invoke Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) measures and deploy relief personnel to the site.

"Have spoken to Chief Secretary & Police Commissioner and asked them to address and redress the situation. CS has been asked to invoke DDMA measures & deploy relief personnel. All hospitals are in readiness to address related exigencies," he added.

To ensure prompt medical attention, all hospitals in the area have been put on high alert to address any related emergencies. LG Saxena has also instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to be present at the site and take control of relief measures.

"Have instructed CS & CP to be at the site and take control of relief measures. I am constantly monitoring operations," he added.

Delhi LG Saxena also visited the LNJP hospital where those injured in the stampede that occurred at New Delhi railway station were admitted.

"Those injured are receiving treatment at the hospital. Delhi police are at the railway station. Trains movements are normal now. The situation is under control...," said the Delhi LG while talking to reporters outside the hospital.

Around 15 people were injured on Saturday due to a huge rush at New Delhi Railway Station. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot, according to the Delhi Fire Service. (ANI)
