Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed sadness over the stampede at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj early this morning and said that for now there is no information about the people of Chhattisgarh present at the spot.

Speaking to ANI Vishnu Deo Sai said, "... The UP government has ensured all types of arrangements there (in Maha Kumbh), yet, there was a stampede. We pray that those who have passed away, their souls rest in peace... Till now, there is no information about the people of Chhattisgarh being there (in the stampede)..."

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Dy CM Arun Sao said, "On the pious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, 8-10 crore people visited Prayagraj. In such a situation, the way PM Narendra Modi, HM Amit Shah, and UP CM Yogi Adityanath have handled the preparations there, the situation is getting back to normal. The CM has also spoken to the Akhada chiefs and 'sants' to ensure that all arrangements are in place..."

Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede in Prayagraj.

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev urged people to go to the nearest ghat and take Amrit Snan, saying the flow of water from the Sangam would definitely reach every ghat in Prayagraj.

Speaking to ANI, Ramdev said, "When in crowds like this, it is our duty to ensure our and everyone else's safety. If everyone is careful, everything will go on smoothly. All devotees who are here need to be patient. The first characteristic of dharma is patience. Even though everyone wants to visit Sangam, it is not practically possible so wherever you are, you can go to your nearest ghat since the flow of water from Sangam will definitely reach every ghat in Prayagraj."

The incident comes as a massive crowd of devotees gathered at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya.''

Other significant bathing dates left in the Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami--Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri). (ANI)
