Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday warned the voters of Delhi not to be swayed by the promises of Congress, BJP, and the Aam Aadmi Party and urged them to cast their votes after careful consideration

Addressing a press conference, Mayawati said, "In this election, Congress, BJP, and the Aam Aadmi Party are once again contesting by making numerous enticing promises or guarantees to the public, even though these parties have failed to fulfil their electoral promises while being in power several times."

"Whereas, in matters of public welfare, it is the BSP that truly ensures the safety and well-being of all sections of society, and everyone knows this. Therefore, in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, all voters should cast their votes after careful consideration," she added.

The BSP supremo also expressed hope that her party will perform better on its own if the election is completely free and fair and there is no manipulation.

"BSP is contesting the Delhi assembly elections with full strength on its own. I am hopeful that our party will secure a better result this time, provided that the election is completely free and fair and there is no manipulation, as most parties have expressed concerns regarding this," she said.

"The Election Commission needs to take immediate strict action against the increasing hate speech, provocative posters, and similar tactics. Furthermore, this election must be safeguarded from the enticing promises made by the AAP, BJP, and Congress," she added.

The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for 59 seats.

The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats. (ANI)
