Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah announced on Sunday that the state government has decided to confer this year's Silpi Award on playback singer Anima Choudhury and folk singer Mukul Rabha.
Speaking to ANI, Bimal Borah said, "This year's Silpi Award will be conferred on playback singer Anima Choudhury and folk singer Mukul Rabha. The Nat Surya Phani Sharma Award 2024 will be conferred on actress Reba Phukan, the Sahityasarjya Atul Chandra Hazarika Award on actress Hira Neog, and the Bhimbor Deori Award on renowned social worker Jaleswar Brahma." Minister Borah further stated that all four awards will be presented on January 17 during the Silpi Diwas celebration, which commemorates the death of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, a prominent figure in Assamese culture. He also added, "This year's Silpi Divas will be celebrated in Golaghat." On Saturday, Minister Bimal Borah also announced that the state government will provide Rs50 lakh each to 50 aspiring entrepreneurs to construct cinema halls. In a post on X, Borah said, "Another significant initiative by our government, led by CM Dr. @himantabiswa dangoriya, reflects a strong commitment to holistic development by blending cultural enrichment with economic and social progress. Providing financial assistance of Rs50 lakh each to 50 aspiring entrepreneurs for constructing cinema halls will play a pivotal role in supporting Assamese cinema and regional storytelling. This initiative not only preserves our rich and vibrant cultural heritage but also provides a platform for local talent to flourish." He added that the last date for receiving applications for this initiative is February 20. "Interested entrepreneurs may contact the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation and submit their applications or call 8876519296.
