TMC General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday addressed the ongoing situation against the minorities in Bangladesh and emphasised that the TMC would support any actions taken by the Union Government for the safety and security of those minorities there.
Speaking at the inauguration of the mega health camp 'Seba Shray' in Kolkata, the TMC MP from Diamond Harbour expressed concern about the violence and instability in Bangladesh against the minorities. Banerjee called for a response from the Union Government and also reiterated the party's position on this issue. "Everyone knows the kind of atrocity, the kind of anarchy that has been going across Bangladesh, and the silence of the central government is adding to the speculation... We want to see the central government reply, or rather give a befitting reply in the language that perhaps Bangladesh understands. Who is stopping them? From our party's perspective, we have made our stand absolutely clear from day one that it is a Union subject; external or foreign affairs fall under the purview of the Union Government," Banerjee said. "Whatever step the Union Government takes, TMC as a party will completely support the Union Government for the safety and security of every Indian. We want them to reply to the people who are torturing us and showing us their red eye," he added. Banerjee also announced the launch of the large-scale health camp called "Seba Shray" in his parliamentary constituency of Diamond Harbour. The health camp will operate across seven assembly constituencies with the participation of 1,200 doctors. Over 280 camps will be set up at 2,000 booths, aiming to provide healthcare services to more than 23 lakh-plus people in the region. "This mega health camp will be run in seven assembly constituencies with 1200 doctors. 300 camps will be set up, which will cover 2000 booths. This mega health camp will provide health care services to 23 lakh-plus people," the TMC MP said. Banerjee further responded to critics who suggested that the health camp was a political move and stated that his party's focus had always been on serving the people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. He mentioned that Diamond Harbour had achieved 100 per cent vaccination during the pandemic and that the TMC had been actively working for the constituency's welfare. "Many said that Abhishek Banerjee was doing this for the election. We don't do politics like others do... We have done all possible steps also in the time of Covid. In this constituency we have done 100 per cent vaccination...We always stand with people. Last year, the people of Diamond Harbour helped to to win by a high margin and elected me to the Lok Sabha for the third time," the TMC general secretary said "I am an MP of those who gave a vote to me, also for those people who didn't give me a vote. I am MP of all people. I request all people of Diamond Harbour without any political colour and welcome them in the camp," he added. (ANI)
