Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday applauded the Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra saying that it gave 'Sanjeevani' to the party and the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra took it a step further.

While addressing a press conference after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Jairam said, "We believe that Bharat Jodo Yatra gave 'Sanjeevani' to Congress and it was a turning point in Congress' politics. Then, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra happened and now, on 26 January 2025 - we will launch a year-long 'Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Pad Yatra'."

Congress General secretary KC Venugopal said that they've moved two resolutions, one on Mahatma Gandhi and the second as a political resolution.

"We moved two resolutions, one on Mahatma Gandhi and the second as a political resolution. More than 50 leaders participated in the discussions... We finally decided to go for a massive political campaign for one year. 2025 is going to be the Organisational Reforming Program of Congress. There will be a thorough inquiry about the capability of the leaders at every level," he said.

After the meeting, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "It was a very important meeting of the CWC."

Earlier, the Congress on Thursday announced the launch of a massive nationwide public outreach campaign, the Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra, to be held between 26 January 2025 and 26 January 2026, with participation from all party leaders.

In a statement, the party also announced the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Abhiyan,' which will commence with a rally in Belagavi on December 27 and conclude with a rally in Mhow on 26 January 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution.

"The CWC met today in Belagavi, Karnataka, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's historic presidency of the Indian National Congress at its 39th Session in 1924. As the nation recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution, it is fitting that we pay this tribute to him. Mahatma Gandhi's statement on 19 November 1939 was pivotal in the establishment of the Constituent Assembly seven years later," the statement read.

"The CWC and the Indian National Congress are fiercely committed to protecting the Indian Constitution and the ideals of the Indian Independence Movement. Accordingly, the Indian National Congress will launch the Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Abhiyan, beginning with a rally in Belagavi on December 27th and culminating in a rally at Mhow on January 26th, 2025, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Constitution coming into force and the founding of our Republic. During this month, rallies and marches will be organized in every block, district, and state as well," the party's statement said.

Congress further informed that an All India Congress Committee (AICC) session will be held in Gujarat in the first half of April 2025

"Given the urgency of the need to preserve, protect, and promote the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, as well as that of the Constitution, this movement will extend beyond January 26th, 2025, as well. Between January 26, 2025, and January 26, 2026, the Indian National Congress will launch a massive, nationwide public outreach campaign called the Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra in which all leaders will participate. This Padayatra will be from village to village, township to township in the form of a relay. The details will be announced shortly. Finally, an AICC session will be held in Gujarat in the first half of April 2025," it said. (ANI)
