The opposition Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is expected to file a breach of assembly notice against Telangana Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramakra on Monday, accusing him of spreading false information regarding the state's debt figures.
Former minister and party's working president Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), in a post on X, cited a report allegedly by the RBI, that revealed that Telangana's debt had risen from Rs 72,658 crores in 2014-15 to Rs 3,89,673 crores by March 2024. https://x.com/KTRBRS/status/1868482474969563407 KTR alleged that the sharp increase contradicts the state Finance Minister's claims of managing the state's debts effectively. "We will be moving a privilege motion against the Congress Govt for its repeated attempts to mislead the legislature & the people of Telangana by stating that the total state debt is 7 lakh crore whereas RBI report exposed their lies stating that the debt is only 3.89 lakh crore," he said. "The report released by the Reserve Bank of India recently titled 'Handbook of Statistics on Indian States' has proven that the Finance Minister's speech on debts is completely untrue," KTR added. He accused the finance minister of deliberately providing false information, tarnishing the reputation of the previous BRS government, and misleading the public about the true scale of the state's financial burden. "Therefore, under Rule 168 (1) of the Telangana Legislative Assembly Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, we are giving a breach of assembly notice on behalf of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi party against the Finance Minister," KTR added. In a separate post, KTR took a swipe at the Telangana government's proposed "Tourism Policy." He mocked the government's focus on tourism, pointing out areas where, according to him, the opposition Congress government had achieved "remarkable progress." https://x.com/KTRBRS/status/1868502322868867217 "As the Telangana assembly proposes to discuss 'Tourism policy,' the two specific areas where Congress Govt has achieved remarkable progress in this sector are Delhi Tourism, with more than 100 trips made by CM and all Ministers combined, and Jail Tourism, with 40 Kodangal farmers jailed, actors jailed even after bail, social media warriors being jailed, and LnT CFO being threatened to be jailed," the post mentioned.
