A large team of police personnel were deployed outside the residence of UP Congress leader Aradhana Mishra after the party had announced that it would visit Sambhal to prepare a report on the situation there. Mishra claimed that the police presence outside here house was a sign of "anarchy," and said that it is "unfortunate" that a delegation which was going for fact-finding is being stopped from going to Sambhal.

"This is anarchy. It is unfortunate that a delegation which was going for fact-finding is being stopped from going to Sambhal. Police have been deployed at my residence. This is total anarchy. The people of the state want to know about this issue. Is it law and order when a person is not allowed to go outside their residence?" Aradhana Mishra said.

The police have been deployed outside the residence of Congress leader Aradhana Mishra in Lucknow.

Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Police issued a notice to Congress state president Ajay Rai asking them not to visit violence-hit Sambhal.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that the party delegation was going to Sambhal for fact-finding and restoration of peace.

"Congress delegation was going to Sambhal for fact-finding and restoration of peace but the District Administration has kept Ajay Rai and Mona ji under house arrest. This creates doubts - why are they being stopped? What are they (BJP) trying to hide?" Tiwari said.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, "They (BJP) don't want to let anyone go there (Sambhal). Those who commit sins always try to hide it."

In the notice given to Ajay Rai, he has been informed that "Keeping in mind the peace and communal sensitivity in Sambhal district, he should cooperate in the public interest and postpone his proposed program so that the order passed by the District Magistrate of Sambhal district, Section 163 BNSS is not violated."

Congress President Ajay Rai said that he would go to Sambhal "peacefully."

"They have issued me a notice and have asked me that my visit will cause chaos. Certainly, we also don't want chaos but peace to prevail. The atrocity and injustice that was done there by the police and the govt, I want my leadership to know this. They (police) gave me notice but I will go there peacefully," Rai said.

A Congress delegation led by the party's Uttar Pradesh chief is scheduled to visit Sambhal where a stone-pelting incident took place on November 24.

Tensions in Sambhal have been high since November 19, when a local court ordered a survey of the mosque. Clashes between protestors and police over the court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid resulted in four deaths. (ANI)
