Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said that all the pending cases against businessman Gautam Adani should be investigated by a probing agency under the Supreme Court after his enterprise Adani Group and others were charged by US prosecutors in an alleged solar energy contract bribery case.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the AAP MP said the probing agency under the apex court would be monitoring all the matter and that all "corruption" done by Adani, within and outside the country, should come out in public and strict action should be taken against him.

"All the pending matters against Adani should be probed by an investigation agency under Supreme Court monitoring and all the corruption done by him, within and outside the country, should come out before the country and action should be taken against him," Singh said.

He reiterated that the Gautam Adani had been destroying India's reputation across the world and that the Adani Group has brought disrepute to the nation.

Singh further urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come forward and comment on the matter, alleging that the PM had "kept quiet" on the matter of SEBI and Hindenburg against Adani.

"We have repeatedly said that the Gautam Adani is destroying the reputation of India across the world... Adani Group has brought disrepute to India in the world... This matter, which has come forward where he has given a bribe for USD 265 million to get contracts in the US, is a very serious matter. The PM of India should come forward and answer this. When there is a matter of SEBI against Adani, the PM keeps quiet. The PM keeps quite on the matter of Hindenburg," he said.

When asked if the opposition would demand a Joint Parliamentary Commission on this matter, Singh said, "Parliament session is beginning; we will hold a meeting and decide the further strategy."

Earlier today, a five-count criminal indictment was unsealed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, charging prominent Indian executives, including Chairman of the Adani Group Gautam Adani, by linking them to an alleged bribery and fraud scheme, Reuters reported, citing US prosecutors.

According to the US Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, "A five-count criminal indictment was unsealed in federal court charging Gautam Adani, Sagar R. Adani, and Vneet S. Jaain with conspiracies to commit securities and wire fraud and substantive securities fraud for their roles in a multi-billion-dollar scheme to obtain funds from U.S. investors and global financial institutions on the basis of false and misleading statements."

In its first reaction, after the charges, Adani Green Energy responded by saying that it had decided not to proceed with the proposed USD-denominated bond offerings.

In an exchange filing on Thursday, Adani Green Energy Limited said, "The United States Department of Justice and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission have issued a criminal indictment and brought a civil complaint, respectively, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, against our Board members, Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani. The United States Department of Justice have also included our Board member, Vneet Jaain, in such criminal indictment. In light of these developments, our subsidiaries have presently decided not to proceed with the proposed USD denominated bond offerings." (ANI)
