Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said that in his 53 years of experience in politics, he never witnessed the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister campaigning in every segment in the state assembly elections.

"I have 53 years of experience (in politics), and I have contested 13 elections and won all of them except one in 2019. Following this, I became a member of the Rajya Sabha and became the Leader of Opposition there. Given the assembly elections of Maharashtra, big leaders of the BJP including the PM, Union Home Minister, and CMs of BJP-ruled states are campaigning in Maharashtra. I have never seen the Prime Minister or Union Home Minister campaigning in every segment in the state assembly elections," Kharge said addressing a press conference in Pune.

He further said that the BJP failed to speak about the (main) issues like inflation, unemployment, and investment.

"As normally during the state elections, the state leaders campaign...They are also abusing the Congress party...They never talk about issues like inflation, unemployment, investment," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are attacking the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, referring to it as a force of destruction.

PM Modi alleged that if the Maha Vikas Agadhi alliance gains power in Maharashtra, it will bring back the era of droughts and the water crisis in the poll-bound State.

"Agadhi wale boond boond paani ke liye apko tarsayenge. Isliye mein mata aur beheno ko keheta hu, Agadhi wale ko ghusne bhi mat dena, warne aapko paani ke liye bhi tarsake rakehenge (The Agadhi alliance will make you beg for every drop of water, that is why I tell the mothers and sisters that they should not even let the alliance get in power, otherwise they will make you beg for water)," said PM Modi.

The 288 Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on November 20, with the vote count happening on November 23.

Campaigning has intensified for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra with both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) making efforts to woo the electorate. (ANI)
