Assam Rifles along with the Police Department, Zokhawthar seized 113 grammes of heroin worth Rs 84.75 lakh near the Melbuk Road Junction and has apprehended three in connection with the same, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established in the general area leading to the successful interception of three individuals involved in narcotics trafficking, added the statement. Upon conducting a spot check, the joint team made recoveries concealed among the belongings of the apprehended individuals. The three suspects, 50-year-old Kumari, 41-year-old Lalbiakzuali, and 36-year-old Vansangpuii, all residents of Khawzawl, Champhai, were detained at the scene, the release stated. The seized narcotics and apprehended individuals have been handed over to the Police Department, Zokhawthar, Champhai District, Mizoram, for further investigation and legal proceedings, according to the press release. In a separate incident, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local enforcement agencies, recovered over 2 kilograms of Methamphetamine worth Rs 7.19 crores in a series of anti-smuggling operations in Mizoram, authorities said on Monday. On 11 November, acting on precise intelligence, Assam Rifles and Police Department, Zokhawthar intercepted a white vehicle suspected of cross-border smuggling along the Zokhawthar-Melbuk Road in Champhai District, said authorities. During the operation, the occupants attempted to evade capture, abandoning a blue bag before fleeing the scene. Upon search, the team recovered 2.399 kg of Methamphetamine, valued at Rs 7.197 crore. The seized drugs, along with the vehicle and other recovered items, were handed over to the Police Department, Zokhawthar, for further investigation, added the statement. (ANI)
