Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Monday asked the security grid to take strong steps and change their policy in the wake of the recent terror attacks in the Union Territory.

Dy CM Surinder Kumar highlighted that thousands of leaders and workers of the ruling National Conference have been killed for the sake of peace.

"We are saddened. The government will never tolerate this...We want peace in J-K. National Conference has always made sacrifices for this peace. Thousands of our leaders and workers have been killed. So, the National Conference wants to strengthen this country, J-K and the Constitution of India...," Dy CM Kumar told reporters while condemning the terror attacks.

"We would want these deaths to be the last. So, the security grid will have to contemplate and change its policy. They will have to take strong steps and we condemn this," Dy CM Kumar added.

Deputy CM was speaking to reporters on the Kishtwar encounter and the recent killing of two Village Defence Guards in Kishtwar.

Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF) lost his life during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Sunday.

Two Village Defence Guards were abducted and killed by terrorists in Kishtwara on Thursday evening. Their bodies were retrieved from a forest area of Ohli Kuntwara in Kioshtwara on Friday.

The duo were identified as Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar, both residents of the Kuntwara area in Kishtwar.

There has been a surge in terror attacks in recent months in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

On Saturday evening, one terrorist was neutralised during a joint anti-terror operation by police and forces in the Sopore area of Baramulla.

On October 20, a doctor and six construction workers were killed when terrorists attacked a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district. (ANI)
