A clash broke out between Congress workers and CRPF personnel during the United Democratic Front's Wayanad Lok Sabha byelection candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's roadshow at Vaduvanchal here on Sunday evening.
The clash broke out during the fag end of the rally when some workers who were gathered around her vehicle refused to move from the road. The CRPF personnel were seen trying to clear the way for Priyanka's vehicle but some congress workers were seen refusing the instructions, causing a minor scuffle. Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi met people from the Christian community. She assured that she would fight for their demands like she does for everyone else. "People have given me a lot of love and affection. I'm very grateful for it. I've been very happy campaigning here. I have been meeting many people from the Christian community. I will fight for their demands. Just as I am fighting for everybody else. I will discuss with them, understand properly and I will also support them," said Priyanka Gandhi. Earlier on Saturday, Congress leader Sachin Pilot claimed a "historic victory" for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad. He further added that she alongwith Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Parliament will lead to "tough days" for the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He stated that from the feedback he received, the Congress and UDF cadre are united and there is a lot of positivity among the public. There is a resounding sentiment that there will be a historic victory for Priyanka Gandhi. She, from the last 2 decades, has proved herself as an astute politician. She will be a strong voice in the Parliament for the Wayanad people. Further, the Congress leader asserted that their target within the party is that Priyanka Gandhi should win by over five lakh votes. Wayanad, a Congress stronghold, will see a contest between Priyanka Gandhi of Congress, Navya Haridas of the BJP, and Sathyan Mokeri of the Left alliance in the upcoming by-polls. The election was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat, choosing to retain Rae Bareli following his victory in both constituencies in the general elections earlier this year. The by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled for November 13. (ANI)
