Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday accused the BJP-led state government of halting schemes implemented during the Congress regime and failing to maintain law and order in the state.
"The Chhattisgarh bypoll is very important as the public of Chhattisgarh feels looted after the formation of the BJP government in the state. There is no law and order in the state, and the schemes that were implemented during the Congress government have been stopped," Baghel said while speaking to ANI. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attack on the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) during his rallies ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, Baghel said, "Those who are corrupt are being welcomed into their party. PM Modi himself had levelled allegations of Rs 70,000 crore against Ajit Pawar, and the very next day, he was made the Deputy Chief Minister in the Mahayuti government." "So, the corrupt ones are all in the BJP," Baghel alleged. The bypoll in Chhattisgarh will be held only for the Raipur South Assembly seat, which has been represented by BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal for the last eight terms. The by-polls are spread over 15 states - Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. While polling will be held on 47 assembly seats and Wayanad Lok Sabha seat on Nov 13, it will be held on one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and Nanded constituency in Maharashtra on November 20. The largest number of bypolls will be held in Uttar Pradesh and seats going to the polls are Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karhal, Phulpur, Katehari, Majhawan, and Sishamau. The Assembly polls in Jharkhand will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20. In Maharashtra, the assembly polls will be held in a single phase on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23. Earlier in October, the Election Commission declared results for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assembly polls. (ANI)
