Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Friday slammed the Opposition for spreading a "fake narrative" that the BJP-led Centre will change the Constitution and end the reservation for the vulnerable sections of the society.

Ajit Pawar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has immense respect for the Constitution.

"Some people tried to create a fake narrative. They say that the Constitution will be changed and the reservation will be finished," Ajit Pawar said in an election rally here in support of NCP candidate Sunil Tingare from Vadgaon Sheri Assembly constituency.

"Our constitution is the best. Who can change this? While the Opposition spreads a fake narrative that the Constitution will be changed, PM Modi, after taking the oath, immediately bowed down to the Constitution. He respects it the most," he added.

He said that Mahayuti, which constitutes NCP, BJP and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, working unitedly to win the upcoming Assembly election in the state.

Ajit Pawar also said that the Congress is promising people a scheme like the Mahayuti government's Ladki Bahin Yojana if it comes to power. But he said that the Congress' promise is not fiscally viable.

"Ladki Bahin Yojana has become very famous in Maharashtra. My dear sisters are getting money now directly in their bank accounts. But the opposition, who were attacking us for this scheme, now is making promises like our schemes. They say in their manifesto that they will give more money. I have asked my officers how much amount needed to fulfil their promises. I got to know it would require 3 lakh crore," he said.

"I am certain that if they arrange this much money, then all the other developmental work will be stalled. This is nothing but a false promise," he added.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Wednesday announced five guarantees including Mahalakshmi Yojana for women under which Rs 3,000 will be given per month to one woman in every family and free bus travel for women.

The Maharashtra Assembly election will be held for 288 seats in Maharashtra on November 20 and results will be declared on November 23. (ANI)
