Assam Rifles conducted an awareness drive as part of 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' at Udaipur, Tripura on Saturday.

The event was aimed to educate the local populace, particularly youth, about the detrimental effects of drug abuse and the importance of living a drug-free life, an official release stated.

The awareness drive featured an interactive lecture session, where the detrimental effects of drug addiction, its social and financial implications and the support systems available for rehabilitation were discussed. A total of 157 people participated in the event, the release stated.

The event concluded with an interactive session, where participants shared their experiences and pledged support for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The efforts were well appreciated by the local populace and administration. The event was part of Assam Rifles endeavours to curb the malice of drug addiction from society and is symbolic of the organisation's vision of Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been mandated to reduce drug demand. It coordinates and oversees all aspects of drug abuse prevention including assessment of the extent of the problem, preventive action, treatment and rehabilitation of addicts, dissemination of information, and public awareness and is mandated to run de-addiction centres.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is operational with the involvement of more than 500 voluntary organizations across the country, which are assisted financially under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched in August 15 2020. (ANI)
