Two men were arrested in Pune for brandishing a fake gun while riding, sparking fear among commuters on Satara Highway on Friday, a police official said.
Accused Akshay Gaikwad (27 years) and Sunil Shinde (28 years), both painters were arrested for reckless driving and public intimidation. The incident occurred between Vadgaon Bridge and Warje Bridge on Satara Highway. A viral video showed the duo's reckless behaviour, leading to their arrest. Sinhagad Police registered cases under various acts, including the Motor Vehicles Act and Bombay Police Act, and took both into custody. According to DCP Sambhaji Kadam, "It was fake fataka gun used in Diwali, But an offence has been registered at Sinhagad PS under BNS 351(2), 281, MV Act Sec 184, 119/177; and 135 BP Act and Cri Law Amend Act Sec 7." DCP further added that the accused were found driving their vehicle recklessly on a road, disregarding traffic rules and driving in a manner that posed a danger to others. "Also, one of the accused, while seated pillion, displayed a fake weapon resembling a gun towards passing vehicles, creating the illusion that it was real. This act incited fear among the public and caused a sense of panic and intimidation. Consequently, a case has been registered, and both the accused are in the custody of Sinhagad police," he added.
