Candles and Diya lighting marked Diwali celebrations at the newly constructed Sharda Yatra temple at LoC Teetwal in Kashmir on Thursday.

According to an official statement, a large number of Kashmiri pandits, locals alongwith army jawans participated and lit oil lamps & candles to celebrate Diwali and distributed sweets.

Led by Construction Committee member Ajaz Khan, it was as historical as Diwali in Ayodhya. In a statement, Ravinder Pandita conveyed Diwali greetings to all Sharda followers across the globe.

Save Sharda Committee has taken the lead in the reconstruction of the temple and Sikh Gurudwara after reclaiming the same last year.

Prior to tribal raids in 1947, a Dharmshala and a Sikh gurdwara used to exist in the same plot that was burnt down in the raids.

On similar lines, the committee is reconstructing the Sharda temple and Sikh Gurudwara, the construction of which is nearly complete.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army's Romeo Force Rashtriya Rifles battalion celebrated Diwali with locals in DKG Dehra Ki Gali of Tapa Pir and Manyal village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. The event, organised by the Romeo Force RR battalion, saw widespread participation from villagers, including women, children, and the elderly. Soldiers distributed sweets to villagers, shared in the festive spirit, and interacted with locals, fostering bonds and trust. On the occasion of Diwali, solar lights were installed in the village, illuminating homes and streets.

The nation celebrated Diwali on October 31, with festivities beginning on Dhanteras. Known as the 'Festival of Lights,' Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

The five-day celebration starts with Dhanteras and concludes with Bhai Dooj. Families decorate their homes with lamps, share sweets, and take part in the joyful festivities, embodying unity and hope. (ANI)
