Deoghar, often referred to as "Baba Nagri" or the "Abode of God," is a small town located in Jharkhand, which is renowned for its deep religious significance. Nestled amidst the lush forests and scenic hills of the Chotanagpur Plateau, Deoghar holds a central place in Hindu religious traditions, drawing millions of pilgrims each year.

The town is mostly famous for the Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the fifty-one Shakti Peethas, making it a sacred site for devotees of Lord Shiva and the goddess Parvati.

According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Shiva's presence as a Jyotirlinga grants devotees physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Pilgrims from across India visit Baba Baidyanath Dham to seek Lord Shiva's grace and to fulfill their desires.

The origins of the Baidyanath Jyotirlinga are shrouded in ancient legend. According to the Puranas, Ravana, the mighty demon king of Lanka and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, sought the god's blessings to make his kingdom invincible. In order to appease Lord Shiva, Ravana performed severe penance, even sacrificing his head as offerings. Pleased with Ravana's devotion, Shiva granted him a Jyotirlinga with the condition that it should not be placed on the ground until he reached his destination. However, Lord Vishnu, concerned about the misuse of this divine power, intervened, causing Ravana to set the lingam down on the soil of Deoghar. Once placed, it became rooted in Deoghar, making it a permanent abode for Shiva's blessings.

Elections for 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly will be conducted in two phases on November 13 and November 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23.

Notably, a total of 2.60 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in Jharkhand, including 1.31 crore male voters and 1.29 crore female voters. The state has 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. (ANI)
